On Saturday afternoon a large contingent of runners headed to Heaton to take part in the road relays, a 4 person team event for women and 6 for men over a 2.2m course. The course, a 2 lap undulating route with two climbs on the loop to test the legs, especially on the second lap but with a nice 80 metre fast downhill to the finish.
In the mens race, Paul Allan put in the fastest leg of the day with a storming 11.46 in a fast first leg where all the big boys were jostling for position. Last years Darlington 10k winner clocking 10.39 to claim the fastest leg of the day and was only one of five to break 11 mins for the course.
Excellent effort and team work by all men on the day. Big thank you to Mark Tallon for stepping in as captain on the day due to Jeff’s work commitments.
