Redcar Running Festival – Everyone Active 2K

Two families from our junior camp turned out at Redcar for the Running Festival on a soggy Sunday morning! The ‘Everyone Active 2k Fun Run’ took in Redcar sea front and every finisher was rewarded with a medal and a t-shirt!

The weather was a bit damp to say the least, but it didn’t stop over 150 youngsters lining up at the start to give it their all. Amongst them were U13 regular, Libby Hammond, and also wearing the blue and white vest was Libby’s younger sister Lucie Hammond. Also competing were our Parkrun experts, brothers Ewan and Harry Rogers.

Soggy conditions at Redcar, but some determined faces!

Having known her for a couple of years now, we’ve come to expect some impressive results from Libby, and today was no exception. Although this was classed a fun run, she didn’t hang around and was the first female to cross the line! She completed the 2k course with a new PB of 8:22, finishing 8th overall… And following in her big sister’s footsteps it was great to see Lucie getting involved, proudly wearing her blue and white Harriers vest! She put in a fabulous effort, finishing in 61st place in a time of 11:15, also a new PB, and beating plenty of older runners in the process. Well done ‘Team Hammond’, an excellent performance from both girls!

The wet conditions didn’t put the boys off either. They both ran extremely well, flying the flag for Darlington Harriers! U15 Ewan worked hard and crossed the finish line in 11th place in an admirable time of 8:38, with younger brother Harry, who’s still an U11 athlete, came home in 29th place in 9:45 and like Lucie, showed some of the older runners how it’s done! Well done lads, a tremendous effort from both!
