Over time, we’re going to introduce our members by way of a series of questions we’ve put to them; they’ve kindly agreed to let us publish their answers. On this occasion, it’s the turn of Sarah Johnson

How long have you been a member:

Unsure, I think 5 years this summer, but could be 4!

Why did you start:

I had wanted to get fit after having my 3rd child!

I started with couch-2-5k, then the 5k to 10k group, but didn’t really enjoy the long distances!! I decided to join a club and discovered the Harriers was an athletics club and not just a running club! I took the plunge and turned up to the sprints group one night and haven’t looked back since!!!

Favourite type of running (Road, XC, T&F, Fell etc):

Track and field all the way! I love the variety; there’s something for everyone!!

Best event you’ve taken part in (and why):

I love the North of England masters events. I had my closest race against training companion John last year and got 3 personal bests that day with my Dad watching too! 

Event you’re looking forward to (and why):

British Masters heptathlon for a change, to see if I can manage it!! ?

What’s on your headphones while you train:

A total mix! At the moment, the Sing soundtrack!!

Favourite training session (and why):

I love the variety our coaches give us, and I feel very lucky to get so much help and advice from some awesome people; so difficult to chose any one session! However I love getting the hurdles out and just practising over them.

Do you take your trainers on holiday? If yes, where is the best place you’ve trained/ran?:

Always! Best place I’ve ran was down Highway 1 in the Florida Keys whilst looking out for crocodiles!! 

Pre race food & drink of choice:

I struggle to eat and drink before a race due to nerves and at competitions where I’m busy all day, so I drink CR7 and eat mango and jelly tots, but have been known to nibble on a ginger cake throughout the day!

Post race food & drink of choice:

Glass of Marlborough or a pear cider and a Thai red curry!!

Favourite place to run:

Really liked running at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham a couple of years ago 

Best Club related memory:

Senior league! I love these events and they’re always my top priority! I love the team spirit and everyone cheering you on, losing my voice during the day from shouting on everyone else!! Some of my best performances have been at senior league and it’s down to all the support I get!!

If you could go for a long chatty run with anyone, who would it be and why:

Sally Gunnell!!!!!! Absolute legend and to get some advice on how she didn’t die during the 400 hurdles!!
