Huge congratulations go out to our Under 17 Harrier, India Pentland who, after being nominated by British Athletics, has been accepted onto the “Athletics Academy Of Sporting Excellence” programme. The programme is a ‘Performance Pathway’ that has been designed to meet the needs of young athletes aged between 16 and 18, who have the potential to progress on to compete as a senior international. To apply, candidates need to be of the correct age, highly ranked on the ‘Power of Ten’ and nominated by British Athletics. India fits the bill perfectly, and has already represented her Country at an English Schools home international XC event!
Athletes will attend a series of national camps and regional days over a two year period, including one to one days with programme specialists. The programme will help develop a broad range of skills, abilities and behaviours needed for senior success, through the delivery of practical trainingsessions and workshops.
Topics covered include Nutrition and Performance, Psychological Demands of Athletes, Lifestyle and Performance, Communication & Dealing with the Media, Social Media, University Choices and Career Planning.
What a tremendous opportunity for India on her journey to competing at the highest of levels – and one we’re sure she’ll make the most of! Best of luck, India, be sure to let us know how you get on
