India Takes Up The Challenge

The British Athletics Cross Challenge Series returned for it’s third event of the 2018 / 2019 season. For those unfamiliar with the Cross Challenge, it’s a series of five highly-competitive races acting as staple fixtures in the domestic winter calendar for athletes of all abilities; if you like your cross country running, this is your chance to battle it out against some of the country’s best endurance athletes!

Prior to today, the series opened, once again at Cardiff on October 13th, before moving onto Milton Keynes on November 10th. Today, the Sefton Park event, with the twists and turns of the Merseyside course, is always one of the most popular, regularly hosting hundreds of runners from across the country year after year…..and back here again was our very own Under17 success story, India Pentland.

The conditions were good, with no wind, mud or rain, and with the course being fairly flat it meant it was going to be fast! Added to that, India’s Under 17 race was being run with the Under 20 Women; another factor meaning a fast pace. She was feeling confident at the start and ran an impressive race around the 4.4k course, eventually crossing the line in 9th place from a field of 81 runners, in an excellent time of 15:54. A great result, but I know she was hoping for better, not having found her top form yet this season. Still a tremendous run, India, so well done from us! ☺

The next round of The Cross Challenge is on 19th January at Belfast, before the series culminates with The Final on 9th March at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough. We’ll keep you up to date
