Girls Bring Home The Bling

It’s been a long time coming! After one of the longest winters on record, at last the warmer weather heralded the arrival of the Track and Field season last weekend….. and where better to kick off the new season than Gateshead International Stadium?
Six of our junior girls were in action, all contributing towards a rather impressive medal haul after a very successful day of competition. Officials had a few teething problems on the day, so some of the times and distances that follow may not be entirely accurate! But still some great results from our juniors.

Under 15 Girls 75m Hurdles It was a one, two for DHAC as Charlotte Rutter and Logan Fawcett finished first and second! Some top hurdling from the girls, both just outside their PB. An excellent start to the day, well done girls!

Under 13 Girls 100m After a fantastic indoor season, our Under 13 super sprinter, Kate Williams, continued her string of impressive results with another victory today. She was first across the line in a time of 14.54. Great stuff, Kate, well done!

Under 15 Girls 100m It didn’t take long for Charlotte to bag her second medal of the day! This time it was a bronze as she produced another impressive performance finishing 3rd in the 100m, in an excellent time of 13.95. Well done Charlotte!

Under 15 Girls 200m Another great effort from Logan Fawcett, this time over 200m. Up against some tough competition she ran well, just missing out on a medal this time, finishing in 4th place. Well done Logan.
Under 17 Women’s Javelin Proving once again she is a force to be reckoned with, Jasmine Sharp dominated the javelin competition. She was the clear winner after a best throw of 32.62m, bagging another gold for DHAC. Top throwing, Jasmine, well done!

Under 13 Girls Shot Putt Another young Harrier showing huge potential is our very own Lily Thompson. After a great effort, she came away with a gold medal and a new PB of 7.91m. Great performance, Lily, getting ever closer to that 8.0m mark! ☺

Under 17 Women’s Discus Lily’s big sis, Rosie was on top form as well today. Now stepping out as an Under 17, Rosie proved herself once again with a new PB of 24.13m. That was enough for 2nd place and a silver medal! Great effort, Rosie, well done!

A great day at the office for Lily and Rosie

Under 17 Women’s Shot Putt Rosie was back in action again in the Shot Putt. Disappointed with her own performance she just missed out on a medal, finishing in 4th place. But you were up against some tough competition, Rosie, in your first year at Under 17, so don’t be too hard on yourself! ☺
Under 13 Girls Javelin Lily’s second competition of the day saw her bag her second medal of the day! This time it was silver, with a tremendous throw of 15.27m in the Javelin. Not quite a PB this time, but all done with a sore elbow, so not bad going! Well done Lily.

Under 13/Under 17 Girls Hammer Both Lily and Rosie were in action again, this time in the Hammer – and both girls came home with a new PB! For Lily, it was enough for her second gold medal of the day with an excellent throw of 20.17m. Rosie gave it 100% as always and produced a tremendous throw of 26.94m, just missing out on a medal position in 4th place. Great effort girls, well done!

Under 15 Girls Long Jump Both Charlotte and Logan finished off their day in style with fantastic performances in the long jump. Charlotte added another gold medal to the Harriers haul for 1st place with her best outdoor jump to date of 4.45m…..and Logan, just behind in 2nd place with a new PB of 4.20m! Excellent stuff girls, well done!

Under 13 Girls High Jump Kate did the double with her second event of the day – another gold medal for 1st place in the High Jump with her best jump of the day being 1.30m. Well done Kate, super stuff!
By my reckoning that’s a total haul of 7 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 1 bronze medal – all from six young athletes, and one club. What a tremendous start to the Track and Field season…..long may it continue!! Well done girls. #UTH

Smiles all round: L-R, Charlotte, Kate and Logan with an impressive collection of medals for the day
