DHAC Talent Heads To Liverpool

Three of our juniors travelled to Liverpool last weekend to show off their talent at the Northern Athletics Championships. Open to Under 13’s, Under 15’s and Under17’s, this popular event is always well attended and a great chance to compete against some of the bigger clubs and higher ranking athletes from the North of the country. DHAC usually have a few more athletes taking part, but with holidays and other commitments, it was down to Liam Brittle, Rosie Thompson and, Lily Thompson to fly the Darlington flag.

Liam has had a cracking season in this, his first year at Under 17. He was a regular competitor at cross country in the early part of the year, before moving on to the track, focussing on 800m, 1500m and more recently, the 1500m Steeplechase, where he represented Durham at the English Schools Finals. This time, Liam was jumping those barriers again as he took on another steeplechase, producing another excellent performance. Up against some tough competition, he crossed the line in 3rd place in a time of 5:06.13. A great effort Liam, well done! Things certainly bode well for next season as he moves into the second year of this age category.

A podium place for Liam as he tales 3rd in the steeplechase

Rosie Thompson is another one of our junior athletes in her first year of Under 17 competition. She is certainly one of the best young throwers the club has ever produced, and when you look on the Power of 10, you’ll see what a busy year it’s been for Rosie, and what an impressive track record she has. Today it was the Discus, and she was certainly up against it, with most of the competition being a year older, so unfortunately, there was no medal this time. But a great effort with a best on the day of 18.04m. Well done Rosie!

Following in her big sister’s footsteps, Lily Thompson has had a fantastic season which has been just as busy and impressive as Rosie’s. Now in her second year at Under 13, if things went well, Lily was a serious medal contender today – and they did! In the shot put she produced another throw over 9.0m, this time 9.03m which was enough for 2nd place! Well done Lily, another medal to add to the collection!

Big smiles from Lily with a silver medal in the shot putt
