Best of British #8 (Steve Cram)

Next up in our series covering our favourite British athletics stars, it is…

Steve Cram

Sunderland fan (thought we’d get that one in for Cookie) Steve, nicknamed the Jarrow Arrow, won World Gold in the 1500m and broke the world record in both this event and the 2000m. Steve also won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics in an era where Middle distance running for Great Britain was at his peak.

Winning the 1983 World Championship 1500m in Helsinki

Steve is now responsible for the organisation of the Sunderland events which are generally run in May each year, as well as having his own companies, Extra Mile Media and Steve Cram Training.

He’s also a voice known to all as part of his commentary work for world athletics.
