Best of British #21 (Peter Elliott)

Features

Peter Elliott must feel like Andy Murray does in the tennis world where he would probably have found himself with multiple gold medals and titles if he wasn’t competing in an era where some of the best people in the sport is also competing.

Peter Elliott

Peter, a Yorkshire lad, still managed an Olympic silver medal in the 1500m and a bronze in the World Championships 800m in his career and was controversially omitted from the 1984 Olympic 1500m despite beating Seb Coe in the AAA Championships (Ovett and Cram had already been selected), the committee choosing the latter. It’s worth noting that Coe and Cram won Gold and Silver at the Olympics.

Despite the rejection from the 1500m squad he was selected for the 800m but had to withdraw through injury in the semi finals. In 1990, Peter ran a 1.42.97 800m ranking him number 1 in the World at that time and third fastest Britain.
